Meet our newest bereavement doula, Deja!

Tell us about yourself and your profession.

I am a licensed social worker, full time medical social worker in pediatrics and part time therapist and hospice social worker. When I’m not working, I enjoy being a foodie, traveling, and practicing pilates. I received by undergraduate degree at Temple University and earned my Masters degree from Rutgers University.

What brought you to our nest?

I want to better support moms in different areas of my work: neonatally and in the realm of bereavement. Through my work, I bring knowledge and support to postpartum moms after they find out their kid is diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease. I also hope to later use my knowledge as a bereavement doula to support moms as a therapy specialty. I love the mission of Three Little Birds!

How has completing Three Little Birds advocate training make you a better advocate?

I’ve learned so many new things and Three Little Bird's training has even brought awareness to things that the average mind isn’t considering. It helped me realize that there’s always time to pause and think of others situations. For example, advocating for the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star lullaby to not play (when babies are born in hospitals) as it may be triggering to some moms.

What Three Little Birds services, events or programs are your favorite?

I’m hopeful to support bereaved parent days and other coping activities with supporting the hospital program expansion, as my schedule allows!

What are your goals in volunteering for Three Little Birds?

I want to bring more awareness and resources to the community. I’m excited to continue to learn and grow to better serve different populations walk this journey throughout the local region.
