July Focus Theme - Relaxation/Self-Care

With the world we live in in this day and age, self-care is no longer a luxury. It is mandatory for survival. Think of the three things you would take with you if aliens abducted you…what would they be? Are they healthy? Are they self-fulfilling? Are they reasonable?

While we all get the same 24 hours in the day, we do not all get to spend it the same way. We all have our own lives, schedules, unexpected life events and needs to meet in the same small window of sunlight, as we push and shove our way past each other to meet all the demands of the day. Usually, the most self-care we get to give ourselves is a partial night's rest. That is not self-care. Even machines need to shut off to recalibrate and function and ultimate potential.

Sorry to tell you, you are not a machine. You are human…emotions, flaws, love and all.

Therefore, it is important to make sure there is time for maintenance and check in with yourself to make sure there is a balance to the amount of time you need to sit, relax, work, breathe, grieve, create, be of service to others and maintain other adult responsibilities.

I know…..pot…kettle…..black. Shut up. We’re going to do this together. I promise. All I ask is that you be open to explore new ideas and modalities of self-care.

This month, we will be discussing:

Honoring self-care and boundaries after loss - When experiencing perinatal loss, we often forget we still have to mama ourselves through this difficult time and sometimes, that means setting boundaries that are uncomfortable or unfamiliar to you or your loved ones. That is ok, we can show you how!

The benefits of meditation and stillness as a self-care practice - It can be hard to prioritize our needs when we are working through deep grief. One way that we can use meditation to help is that we can dedicate a small amount of time each day/week/month to meditate on our babies and journey. But meditation is more than chanting while sitting like a pretzel on the floor. There are several ways to meditate!

Chakra/Womb Healing and Reiki - When dealing with the deep grief, there is tendency for our second chakra to become blocked due to the physical, emotional and spiritual trauma of pregnancy and infant loss. Additionally, previously unhealed sexual trauma can leave stagnant energy in the sacral chakra/womb space, which is the energy center of abundance, creativity and birth. This month, we are hosting our friend, Bridget Papagno, the Essential Lightworker, who is offering a free support night at the Healing Nest on July 19 (join our membership program for more information)!

Diversity in perinatal loss and healing - Often, the anger stage of grief includes disappointment in what we believe to be our faith, our God and the promises of love and family that is so horrifically taken from us. In addition to the change in our personal identities, we are now experiencing a crisis of faith in our loss. The doctrines, traditions and scriptures that once gave us hope, leave us feeling….hopeless. And forsaken. This month, our group will explore cultural, religious and other spiritual diversity in loss and healing.
